Blue Jays Report & Presentations May 2013
This year has gone so quickly, I am just going to run through what’s been going on.
We have lots of new players join the club in all age groups, and the ladies team is going from strength to strength, also some the old girls who left us last year to go to university have visited in the holidays to train and catch up.
Ladies, U18 & U16
The Ladies and U18 played in the Salisbury league last winter, the winter league was divided into two sections, the first part were all teams each other and the second part, were the teams were split into two divisions. In the first part of the league the ladies finished second only losing by 3 goals to the winning team and the U18 finished 5th out of 12 teams. In the second part of the winter league the ladies finished 3rd and the U18 finished 4th, well done both teams.
The summer league started a few weeks ago, we had enough interested players to enter three teams, two mixed (adults and U18s) and one U16 team, the U16 team is in the 2nd division and they have not lost a match yet, they doing extremely well winning with big scores, hopefully they should win Division Two.
Our other two teams who are in the first division are having mixed results but it good to see different players playing alongside each other.
We also have a team playing in Ringwood on Thursday nights at the moment and they are doing very well.
Hopefully next season we will have enough players to have a ladies, U18 and U16 team.
Louise and Natalie have both been on umpiring courses, Louise is now a league approved umpire and Nat is working forwards this. We always need more umpires, we would like at least two umpires per team, there is an course coming up shortly please try and attend.
U12, U13 & U14
We entered two teams in the Poole league this season an U13 and U14/16 , both teams did struggle to win matches but it’s all good experience and our teams needs to play competitive matches. Unfortunately as we are the only junior club in Salisbury and we have no local opposition therefore we have to travel to get any competition. Wiltshire are looking into organizing a county junior league next season and if that does happen we might look to enter that instead of Poole but at the moment nothing has been finalized.
I would just like to add that the girls that are now playing brilliantly at U16 and U18 went through the same thing when playing in the Poole matches losing more than winning but now their hard work has paid off and their game has come together, and it will for you if you stay focused and train hard, you will start to win more matches and gain the experience you need to become accomplished players.
Four of our U13 were selected to join the U14 development Programme in Salisbury, also their names were put forward for the Satellite trails in Swindon coming up shortly, the girls are:-
Alice king
Charlotte joint
Tillie and Hattie Cuff,
Well done and good luck.
I feel all ages groups have made great improvements this season from year 6s through to adults, we are always looking to move forward and development as much as we can with the limited resources and facilities we have, we would welcome any ideas and suggestions you might have and we would also welcome anybody who might wish to help us out, either with admin, coaching or umpiring or come onto the committee, we would subsidized any courses you might need to attend.
We held our annual tournament this year in April were we had 42 teams attend from Wilts, Berks Dorset and Hants. We entered a team in each section but unfortunately we didn’t make it to the finals but the girls did gain valuable experience as the opposition was very tough. This is the only fund raising event we do each year and it was very successful, we raised over £800, which is thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the day, the money raised helps subsidize, all club costs from kit to match fees and affiliation’s etc. Thanks again to all helpers
Thank You
Firstly and the most important is a big thank you to the coaches who are volunteers and give up their time every week to coach you all, it is massive commitment for them to give up their free time every week from Sept to May each year, thank you to Babs, Debs and Pam.
Also we have had help from Emma and Lauren this season with the U12 and U13s, a big thank you to them also.
Also thanks to anyone who helped out whilst I have been ill.
Thanks to the captains in each team who have worked tirelessly on your behalf throughout the season.
Lastly thanks to you all for coming to blue jays and making the club what it is today and to your parents for supporting you in your chosen sport.

Good Bye to Georgia
Georgia Edwards is leaving us to emigrate to America:
Georgia has been with Blue Jays from the age of 10 and has been one of the most dedicated and committed member we have had, she comes to every training session plays in all the matches and tournaments and helps out when needed. Georgia is also one the most talented players we have, she played GA but she is happy to play any position and will 110% every time she plays, she has captained the team this year with the help of Becca and they both have done a fantastic job.
As they don’t play netball in America I believe she will be playing basketball, which I am sure she will excel at.
We are all going to miss her so much; I would like you all to join me in wishing her
GOOD LUCK AND BEST WISHES for her future in America.
We presented Georgia with a Gift.
